Muong Khuong market takes place on Sundays and is located in a small border town, which is frequented by Flower H'mong, Tu Di, Tay and Giay ethnic minorities. They come from surrounding villages to buy and sell local products such as food and material for agriculture and fabric. The mix in ethnicities lends the area a colourful character, visible in the market and the wares each group has to offer...

Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai (night train)

• - Pick up at your hotel in Hanoi at 7.00 pm.
• - Transfer to Hanoi train station.
• - Experience the romantic overnight train travel.

Day 2: Lao Cai station - Muong Khuong market on Sunday (B, L)

• - Arrive in Lao Cai station in the early morning, freshen up and have breakfast.
• - Trransfer 55 km to Muong Khuong.
• - Arrive in the market place, join the local tribal peoples of different groups coming from remote villages and go shopping.
• - Sit down for a simple lunch while the market is getting over
• - Get back to Lao Cai and have chances for personal contacts with locals on the way back to their villages.
• - Arrive in Sapa in middle afternoon, check in hotel and walk around the town.

Day 3: Sapa - Ma Tra - Ta Phin - Sapa (B, L)

• - Follow a trail to a Black Hmong ethnic minority village named Ma Tra, visit the locals’ home and see their dwellings, weaving's on belly looms to makes traditional costumes out of hemp fiber…
• - Have picnic lunch.
• - Get to Ta Phin Commune where the Black H’mong and the Red Zao live together.
• - Return to Sapa

Day 4: Sapa - Lao Chai - Ta Van - Lao Cai station (B, L)

• - Explore the spectacular Muong Hoa.
• - Walk from Lao Chai village of the H’mong along the river to Ta Van, the Zay village.
• - Jeep will pick up at Ta Van Bridge and drive back to Sa Pa at noon.
• - Free to wander Sapa town and market in the afternoon.
• - Transfer down hill to Lao Cai station in the late afternoon for taking the overnight train back to Hanoi.
