Overview

MuongHum - a small - traditional market situated among ethnic villages- The market deeply shows the typical cultural features of Vietnam's remote areas, since it is a meeting place for the ethnic groups living in the mountains: Giay, Dao, White Hmong, Ha Nhi. Those living in the highlands, like the Hmong and the Zao (Dao) come down to sell their specific products such as cardamom and other spices and mountain plants. In Mường Hum, you should taste the paddy rice brandy (made with unhusked rice) from the dao village of San Lung. Its fruity flavour and mildness have made it famous well beyond the limits of the Lào Cai province...

Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai (night train)

• - Pick up at your hotel in Hanoi at 7.00 pm.
• - Transfer to Hanoi train station.
• - Experience the romantic overnight train travel.

Day 2: Lao Cai station - Sapa - Y Linh Ho - Lao Chai - Ta Van (B, L)

• - Arrive at Lao Cai's train station at 6.00 am.
• - Take 1-hour car ride uphill to Sapa, have your breakfast and freshen up.
• - Walk 6 km down to the Muong Hoa valley and visit Y Linh Ho village of the Black H’mong
• - Trek down 3 km to Lao Chai village of the H’mong people, have lunch at a local house.
• - Walk to Ta Van village of the Giay minority people.
• - Get back to Sapa town by jeep or motorbike.

Day 3: Sapa - Muong Hum market (B, L)

• - Take the bus down to Muong Hum market opening on Sunday, located 35 km from Y Ty border
• - Have lunch in a local restaurant.
• - Visit the village of Ha Nhi tribe.
• - Go back to Lao Cai to have dinner and take the night train back Hanoi.
